Not really a symbol of good luck…..just a nuisance. East Cooper residents will see the clover mite crawling on oak trees, decks, windows, shutters, etc. These tiny reddish brown pests are not a threat to our health but can invade your home by the hundreds. We will see these pests when there is a drastic change in weather. They like cool weather. On Thursday, April 9th, 2020 we saw temperatures reach 90 degrees in the East Cooper area. Friday, April 10th, 2020 we dropped to 70 degrees and the clover mites came marching into our homes.

We suggest vacuuming up the clover mites instead of crushing them. They will leave a red stain on your couch or window sill.  Homeowners can help prevent a major infestation by cutting vines, trees and shrubs away from their home about 12 inches. You can also seal or caulk cracks around your windows, or repair any rotten wood on your home. Some simple maintenance can prevent clover mites from entering your home.
